May is National Moving Month, and usually for us here at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, we are full steam ahead working to help our customers move to the next chapters in their lives.

Although things are different in the world right now with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we understand there are still people who need to move, and we are doing our serving that need in the safest way possible. Unfortunately, there are still plenty of “scam” moving operations out there in the world looking to make a quick buck off people by posing as a reputable mover. They will often advertise low-priced moving services and it may seem like a great deal, however, you may sacrifice well-trained, background-checked, and hard-working professionals for that low price.

There are a number of ways to do your research into reputable companies, and one of these ways is through reading customer reviews online.

“The number of Google reviews a brand has makes a significant impact on the customer’s decision-making process, but what most customers don’t know is that some moving companies pay or falsify their online reviews, which is against Google policy,” said Jon Nobis, the CEO of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. “This lack of authenticity in online reviews makes the process of hiring a trustworthy, reliable mover even more difficult for consumers.”

Using online reviews will help you gauge the legitimacy of the moving operating you’re about to hire, and you can pick up on trends – both good and bad – on how the company operates.

Along with customer reviews, extensive online research can help you look for things like how they treat their employees, how professional they are, if they offer professional moving equipment, and more. All of this is important when it comes to making sure your money is going somewhere safe and not to a scam.

“As a brand, we are laser-focused on transparency and building trust, ensuring that our customer experience is world class,” said Nobis. “Because moving scams are on the rise, we’ve taken these measures up a notch and are committed to further developing our customer service initiatives with the launch of new technology-focused solutions that make booking a move easier for our customers.”

Lastly, another area where you can decipher scams from legitimate operations is with online quote forms. Shady advertisements and data aggregators can often give the impression of being real online, but they’re just looking to sell your customer info to other companies. This is why it’s important to get your moving quotes directly from the moving company.

“It’s important to make sure that you are requesting an online moving quote directly from a moving company that you are intending to work with,” Nobis said. “It can become very frustrating for a customer who believes they are submitting a moving request for a specific company and then three or four moving companies follow up with phone calls and emails. Customers need to be careful during their research phase to ensure they’re only providing their personal information to companies they’re interested in moving with.”
